In order to research and test possible scenarios for a sustainable agricultural economy, the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) initiated the “Agricultural Systems of the Future” funding program in 2019.  Six interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research networks are being funded. In the face of current and future challenges for agriculture, they are developing innovative, sustainable and resilient solutions. They combine their expertise in science, technology, economics, ecology and social sciences.

The central coordination office supports the consortia in creating synergies, promoting exchange and efficiently implementing common goals. This creates a strong research and knowledge community that integrates new technologies, sustainable production methods and social requirements - for sustainable agricultural production in urban and rural areas.
